If you had $36,000 to distribute, what would you do? Well, if you're The Playwrights' Center of Minneapolis, you'd offer five $7,200 fellowships to a quintet of emerging American playwrights. The Center has been offering Jerome Fellowships since 1976, and will do so again in 1999-00. Fellows spend 12 months in Minnesota, where they can use the Center's facilities and participate in readings and workshops with professional directors, actors and dramaturgs. Previous fellows have included August Wilson, Ruth Margraff, Lee Blessing and Kevin Kling.
Those interested in applying should send for an application: Jerome Fellowships, Playwrights' Center, 2301 Franklin Avenue East, Minneapolis, MN 55406. Make sure to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope for reply. Applications must be postmarked by Sept. 15, 1998. Dramatists applying may not have had more than two fully-produced works done at professional theatres.
