News Following Off-Broadway Run, Creators Return to Fat Camp Fat Camp, the musical about a group of overweight teens that was seen in a brief 2012 Off-Broadway run, will receive a New York City developmental lab in September, according to an Equity casting notice.

Scott Schwartz (tick, tick... Boom, Golda's Balcony) has been enlisted to direct the early-September workshop of the musical that has a book by Timothy Michael Drucker, music by Matt roi Berger and lyrics by book co-writer Randy Blair. Rock of Ages producers Michael Minarik and Carl Levin/Eleven Entertainment are shepherding the latest incarnation of the musical that previously starred Hairspray alum Carly Jibson in its limited Off-Broadway run.

The same producing team has been involved with Fat Camp since a 2010 reading and a 2011 developmental staging at Cleveland's PlayhouseSquare. An earlier version was also presented during the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival, where the musical took the Best of Fest Award.

Here's how the 2012 run was billed: "Fat Camp tells the tale of a summer spent at Camp Overton where secrets, s'mores and self-image collide in a coming-of-age rock musical comedy."
