News For Lauded Original Cast, at Least Five More Months of Doubt The company that helped make John Patrick Shanley's Doubt a sensation Off-Broadway and then on Broadway, will continue in their roles to January 2006.

Cherry Jones, Brían F. O'Byrne, Heather Goldenhersh and Adriane Lenox, the award-winning original cast of the provocative Tony Award-winning and Pulitzer Prize-honored play, have extended their contracts to Jan. 8, 2006 at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).

Cherry Jones, who plays Sister Aloysius, won Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Lucille Lortel and Obie awards for Best Actress in a Play; Brían F. O'Byrne, who plays Father Flynn, received Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle awards and a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Play; Heather Goldenhersh, who plays Sister James, was honored with a Theatre World Award for her Broadway debut and a Tony Award nomination as Best Featured Actress in a Play; and Adriane Lenox, who plays Mrs. Muller, is the winner of the Tony, Drama Desk and Lucille Lortel Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play.

Doubt has recouped its investment and is expected to have a long life beyond the original cast; a replacement company is likely, although tradition shows that further extensions for original members are not out of the question.

Doug Hughes directed, and won the Tony for his effort.

The production opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre March 31, 2005. "Set against the backdrop of a Bronx Catholic school in 1964, Doubt is the story of a strong-minded woman faced with a difficult decision. Should she voice concerns about one of her male colleagues…even if she’s not entirely certain of the truth?"

Set design is by John Lee Beatty, costume design is by Catherine Zuber, lighting design is by Pat Collins, original music and sound design is by David Van Tieghem.

Producers are Carole Shorenstein Hays, MTC Productions Inc. (Lynne Meadow, artistic director; Barry Grove, executive producer), Roger Berlind and Scott Rudin.
