The Nathan Lane Broadway revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum opening April 18 will be lighter by one song.
The deleted Stephen Sondheim song is "Pretty Little Picture," in which the wily slave, Pseudolus (Lane), tries to convince the show's ingenue, Phyllia, to run away with his master, Hero, by describing how idyllic life will be ("the bong of the bell of the buoy in the bay, and the boat and the boy and the bride are away").
Director Jerry Zaks told Playbill On-Line "In context, the number slowed down the story in a way which diminished the whole."
