PlayBlog Foxboro Hot Tubs (aka Green Day) to Play Bowery Electric April 24 The multiple Grammy-winning rock band Green Day, whose musical American Idiot opened on Broadway earlier this week, will perform a concert under its alter-ego alias "The Foxboro Hot Tubs" April 24 at Bowery Electric.

The band, consisting of original Green Day members with the addition of singer/guitarist Kevin Preston, was formed with the goal of creating music with a more "garage" sound. Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong - who performs under the name Reverend Strychnine Twitch when playing with the "Tubs" - described the birth of the group: "We love to play music and be spontaneous, and after a few late night jams and a few too many bottles of wine, we were inspired to record some rockin' eight-track recordings."

While it was initially only speculation that the Hot Tubs were, in fact, Green Day, Armstrong (or Twitch) finally confirmed it, stating, "The only similarity between Green Day and Foxboro Hot Tubs is that we are the same band. The Foxboro Hot Tubs were a place we used to sneak booze and chicks into late at night. But most of the time it was just 'dude soup'."

Doors for the show open at 11 PM. Tickets, priced at $20, are only available at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to high demand for admission to the small venue (seats 150-200 people), nobody will be allowed to line up until 8 PM.

Bowery Electric is located at 327 Bowery, near 2nd Street.
