Classic Arts News Franz Welser-M‹st to Conduct at Vatican Franz Welser-M‹st, music director of the Cleveland Orchestra and general music director of the Zurich Opera, will conduct works by Mozart during a pontifical mass to be held May 6 in St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome, a spokeswoman for the orchestra announced.
The performance will celebrate the 500-year anniversary of the Swiss Guard; Swiss President Moritz Leuenberger will be present. As part of the liturgy, Welser-M‹st will lead the Zurich Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the Freiburg Cathedral Choir and the Choir of the Lucerne Musikhochschule in works by Mozart, including the Coronation Mass.

The mass will be celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI at 9:30 am.
