News Fraulein Else: Alma Cuervo to Play Next Schneider in Cabaret Alma Cuervo will assume the role of Fraulein Schneider Feb. 17 in the current Broadway revival of Cabaret, a spokesperson confirmed. The role's current portrayer Carole Shelley will play her final performance Feb. 16.

Cuervo was last seen on Broadway in Titanic and has played the Fraulein role in the tour of the John Kander and Fred Ebb musical. Other credits include The Heidi Chronicles, Ghetto, Quilters, Is There Life After High School?, Censored Scenes from King Kong and Bedroom Farce.

Neil Patrick Harris (Proof) currently heads up the cast as the Emcee. Tom Bosley (Herr Schultz) and Heather Laws (Sally Bowles) also star with Rick Holmes, Penny Ayn Maas and Peter Benson. (Songstress Deborah Gibson will join the cast as "Sally Bowles" in mid-February. No dates have been announced yet.)

The musical directed by Sam Mendes with Rob Marshall featuring the music of Kander, the lyrics of Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff, opened on Broadway March 19, 1998. It won Tony Awards that year including Best Revival of a Musical.

Roundabout Theatre Company artistic director Todd Haimes told Playbill On-Line (Aug. 2002) that Cabaret will play one more year at the space and then close to make way for a revival of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.
