Classic Arts News Frederica von Stade Headlines New York Festival of Song Gala The New York Festival of Song stages a benefit concert on Thursday, December 16, titled "How 'bout those Mezzos" and starring mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade.
The concert, subtitled "The Highs and Lows From Those Who Know the Life of the Mezzo-Soprano," also features mezzo-soprano Kimberly Barber and includes songs by Handel, Mozart, Ravel, Sondheim, William Bolcom, and Copland. Steven Blier, the co-founder and artistic director of the series, hosts the event and plays the piano.

The benefit, preceded by a cocktail party, is at the offices of architect Rafael Viê±oly at 50 Van Dam Street in Manhattan. Tickets are $350, and are available through the NYFOS at 646-230-8380.

Founded in 1988 by Blier and Michael Barrett, the NYFOS stages several recitals each season at Merkin Concert Hall. The next event, on January 19, features songs based on the works of Russian poets Alexander Blok and Anna Akhmatova.
