News Free Reading of Bill Russell's Last Smoker in America to Be Presented in July The York Theatre Company will present a free reading of Bill Russell and Peter Melnick's new musical The Last Smoker in America July 10.

Part of the York's Developmental Reading Series, the reading will be held at 7:30 PM. Casting will be announced shortly. The Last Smoker in America features book and lyrics by Bill Russell and music by Peter Melnick. Sheryl Kaller will direct the reading with musical direction by Fred Lassen. The musical concerns a "highly dysfunctional family in the near future dealing with addiction, betrayal and a gun."

Bill Russell, who wrote the book and lyrics for Side Show, also penned the book and lyrics for Off-Broadway's Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens and Pageant. His other book/lyric credits include Lucky Duck, Kept, Fourtune, The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Family Style.

The York Theatre Company presents its shows at the Theatre at Saint Peter's Church, located in Manhattan at 54th Street just east of Lexington Avenue. For reservations call (212) 935-5824, ext. 24.
