News Free Reading of The Empress of Sex to Feature Will Taylor The Hive Theatre Company's Hive Exposed Series, staged readings of new and underexposed plays, will continue Jan. 24 with a reading of Duncan Pflaster's The Empress of Sex at the Midtown Theatre at the HA! Comedy Club.

The 8 PM reading will feature the talents of Will Taylor (A Chorus Line,  La Cage aux Folles, The Producers, 42nd Street), Rosebud Baker (The Sundance Channel's "Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys"), Viv Leheny, Mick Hilgers, Chris Critelli, Alan Winner, Chris Landis and Sarah Raimondi. Matthew A.J. Gregory directs.

The play, according to press notes, concerns "a woman, spurned by love, who finds a deserted island and sets herself up as The Empress Salacia, decreeing that there shall be no love allowed in her domain, only sex. She gathers some sybaritic acolytes, and all is frolicsome mindless fun until Salacia's ex-lover, Agis, comes to the island in disguise, to attempt to win her back."

The evening will feature designs by Justin Couchara and music by Stacy Rock.

Admission is free, and tickets will be distributed at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Donations to benefit the Hive Theatre Company’s mission to foster the creative growth of new and underexposed playwrights will be accepted.
