Co-written with composer Wayne Barker, the musical, according to utsandiego, centers on "the real-life story behind a production of the play The Post Office that was staged by Jewish children in the Warsaw ghetto just before the infamous Nazi 'relocations.'"
The readings, which are also directed by Wong — who is beginning an artistic residency at the La Jolla Playhouse — feature musical direction by Robert Meffe. The cast includes Sharon Wheatley and Kikau Alvaro as well as students from San Diego State's graduate musical theatre program.
About the readings Wong told utsandiego.com, “This is that revealing moment in a musical’s development. Every show begins as simply an idea that, with a little luck and perseverance, eventually becomes a fully written show. But it’s the next step, when that idea is presented by real singing actors in front of its first audience, that you get to find out a little bit more of how the world responds to those ideas, and whether they are as meaningful to others as they are to you and your writing collaborator."
