Classic Arts News French Bassist Pierre Michelot Dies at 77 Pierre Michelot, one of the leading bassists in Europe in the 1950s, has died, the Associated Press reports. He was 77, and had suffered from Alzheimer's disease.
Michelot recorded and performed with such American musicians as Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, and Kenny Clarke. He arranged music for Chet Baker when the trumpeter recorded in Paris in 1955 and 1956.

In 1986, Michelot appeared in Round Midnight, Bertrand Tavernier's film about an American expatriate musician in Paris.

"He had a magnificent natural sound, clear, deep, and true," pianist Ren_ Utreger, who performed with Michelot, told the AP. "It was a dream to play with him."
