Brooke Shields and Jennifer Hope Wills, the well-reviewed replacements in the revival, stepped into the recording studio Nov. 18 to record vocal tracks that energize the new — and second — cast album for the production.

Their vocal tracks were dropped into the existing ensemble and orchestral recording of the cast album that was released earlier this year by DRG The original DRG disc featuring Donna Murphy and Jennifer Westfeldt was nominated for a Grammy Award.

The freshened CD, with Shields on the cover, was shipped from the manufacturer in recent days and is expected to be sold Dec. 13 at the theatre. Stores will start selling it when their shipments arrive.

Shields and Wills got solid reviews after they replaced Murphy and Westfeldt earlier this fall.

It's rare to have two cast albums on the market when a show is still running. A recording of Kiss of the Spider Woman with Vanessa Williams and her leading men was released during the run of that show (Chita Rivera, Anthony Crivello and Brent Carver's cast album was already on the market). A second cast of Hello, Dolly! was also released during the run of that show when Pearl Bailey and an all-black troupe came in as a replacement company (some fans prefer the energy and vocals of that new cast over the original).

This is the second time Shields has dropped her vocals into an existing cast disc for re-release. She dubbed over Rosie O'Donnell's tracks for a second recording of the revised revival of Grease!

Brooke Shields has extended her stay in the show at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre to Jan. 30, 2005.
