News Fringe-Born Matt & Ben to Reopen Off-Broadway July 28 with David Warren Directing Broadway director David Warren will pilot a new run of the 2002 New York International Fringe Festival hit, Matt & Ben, at P.S. 122, July 28 Sept. 6.

Written and performed by two women, Mindy Kaling and Brenda Withers, Matt & Ben spoofs Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the young, powerful and ubiquitous Hollywood buddies. The play takes place "before J-Lo, before Gwyneth, before `Project Greenlight,' before Oscar...before anyone actually gave a damn. When the screenplay for `Good Will Hunting' drops mysteriously from the heavens, the boys realize they're being tested by a Higher Power." Since the Fringe outing, Matt & Ben has been produced at the HBO-sponsored U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and toured the country.

David Warren has directed on Broadway (Holiday, Misalliance) and Off (Barbra's Wedding and several plays by Richard Greenberg and Nicky Silver). Warren's history with commercial productions and the involvement of producers Victoria Lang, Pier Paolo Piccoli, Stephen Pevner and Jason Hsaio suggest Matt & Ben will likely have a future beyond the nonprofit P.S. 122.

The design team includes James Youmans (sets), Jeff Crotier (lights) and Fitz Patton (sound).
