News Fringe Festival Inflicts Cruelty Beginning Aug. 18 The Infliction of Cruelty — a new play by Andrew Unterberg and Sean McManus — begins performances Aug. 18 as part of the 10th Annual New York International Fringe Festival.

Directed by Joel Froomkin, Cruelty will play The Players Theatre through Aug. 26. The cast comprises Elizabeth Van Meter, Holter Graham, Justin Barrett, Aimee DeShayes and Pawel Szajda. The creative team also includes Jerome Martin (set design) and Grant W. Yeager (lighting design).

“When children from a distinguished family reunite for a celebration honoring their father,” read Cruelty press notes, “they enact a plan of retribution based on a deep secret one of the siblings learned about him 15 years earlier. Their moment of hope, however, is eclipsed by a shattering lie.”

Performance dates are Aug. 18 at 4:45 PM, Aug. 20 at 7:15 PM, Aug. 21 at 7:15 PM, Aug. 25 at 5 PM and Aug. 26 at 9:30 PM.
