Broadway lyricist Alan Jay Lerner was born August 31, 1918.

Lerner collaborated with Frederick Loewe on such Broadway classics as Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, and Camelot. Together they also wrote the score for the Academy Award-winning film Gigi. He was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning two of them for My Fair Lady and Gigi.
