Athol Fugard's The Island will be playing at the Old Vic Theatre in London from 22nd January to 13th April. This production, from the Market Theatre Johannesburg, played at the National Theatre in Spring 2000.
Set in the notorious Robben Island prison, The Island is a tribute to the men and women who were imprisoned for taking part in the fight for a free and democratic South Africa. The original actors John Kani and Winston Ntshona, who appeared in the play's premiere almost 30 years ago and received Tony Awards for their performances, will star once more.
