Joining the previously announced Daniel Radcliffe are Ingrid Craigie, Pádraic Delaney, Sarah Greene, Gillian Hanna, Gary Lilburn, Conor MacNeill, Pat Shortt and June Watson.
The production marks the third in the Michael Grandage Company's resident season at the Noel Coward Theatre, following Privates on Parade and the now-running Peter and Alice. It is the play's first major London revival since its premiere at the National Theatre in 1996. It was seen Off-Broadway at New York's Public Theater in 1998, and again in 2009 when the Irish company Druid brought their touring production to Atlantic's Linda Gross Theatre.
In the play, set on the remote island of Inishmaan off the west coast of Ireland, word arrives that a Hollywood film is being made on the neighboring island of Inishmore. The one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy, if only to break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life. According to press materials, the play examines an ordinary coming of age in extraordinary circumstances.
