News   Futuristic Pop Tuner Bedbugs!!! Begins NYMF Run Sept. 16 The sci-fi musical comedy Bedbugs!!!, featuring Celina Carvajal and Brian Charles Rooney, takes a bite out of the New York Musical Theatre Festival beginning Sept. 16.

Penned by Scissor Sisters arranger and pianist Paul Leschen (Twist!) and Fred Sauter, Bedbugs!!! runs through Sept. 27 at the TBG Theatre. Samuel Buggeln directs with choreography by Robin Carrigan.

Carvajal (Tarzan, Radiant Baby), recently seen as a contestant on MTV's "Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods," stars as Carly, opposite Rooney (The Threepenny Opera) as pop icon Dionne Salon. The cast also features Ryan Bogner, Mark Fisher, Tracey Gilbert, Chris Hall, Stephen Sheffer and H. Wayne Williams.

"It's 2012 and Carly, an exterminator hell-bent on avenging her mother's freak death, has accidentally mutated NYC Bedbugs into bloodthirsty killer Hair Metal Rock Gods," according to press notes. "Sweet sidekick Burt has a plan, and troubled Canadian chanteuse Dionne Salon has stumbled onto the scene. But will Carly listen to them and save NYC—or be seduced by her own creation?"

Designing Bedbugs!!! are Amanda Bujak and Chris Rumery (costume design), Dans Maree Sheehan (lighting design) and Shane Terenzi (scenic design).
