The company of the new national tour of The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, starring Ann-Margret, two-stepped into a Dallas recording studio June 4 to preserve their work on a cast album, to be released July 10 by Fynsworth Alley.
The revival tour, slightly rewritten and reshaped, stars Hollywood and Las Vegas actress-singer-star Ann-Margret as Miss Mona, madam of the spotless brothel, the Chicken Ranch, in 1970s Texas. Gary Sandy ("WKRP in Cincinnati") is Sheriff Ed Earl Dodge.
The CD will include a bonus track of composer-lyricist Carol Hall singing and playing a new song that was put into the show for A-M, "A Friend to Me." Pre-orders for the disc begin June 25. The in-store date is July 10. (The bonus track appears on both pre-orders and store copies.)
The show's overture will be heard on the CD as the entr'acte, according to a spokesman, and a section of the new, rousing finale-bows will also be on the recording. The new version of the 1978 hit has a crowd-pleasing dance finale using themes from the score.
