For the U.S. premiere of The Kings of Kilburn High Road, New York City's Irish Arts Center and Ireland's Red Kettle Theatre have enlisted none other than actor and 2000 Tony Award nominee Gabriel Byrne to join their list of producers. The black comedy has already had successful runs at London's Tricycle Theatre and in Dublin before this transfer for a run March 13-April 21.
Red Kettle artistic director and founding member Jim Nolan directs Jimmy Murphy's play set in modern day London where five Irish men reunite in a pub for the wake of a close friend. Murphy's other plays include Best New Irish Play winner, Brothers of the Brush, A Picture of Paradise, Aceldama and The Muesli Belt.
The Kings of Kilburn High Road stars Sean Lawlor, Eamonn Hunt, Brendan Conroy, Noel O'Donovan and Frank O'Sullivan. Lawlor's credits include stints in the films "Braveheart" and "In the Name of the Father."
Tickets are $40-$45. The Irish Arts Center is located at 553 West 51st Street between 10th and 11th Avenues. For reservations, call (212) 206-1515.
