Red Bank, New Jersey's Two River Theater is producing an invitation-only reading of Pamela's First Musical April 27.

Based on the 1996 children’s book by Wendy Wasserstein, the story concerns an unhappy young girl who is taken to New York by her Aunt Louise for a birthday adventure that includes her first Broadway musical. Fun Home's Gabriella Pizzolo will play the young girl, while three-time Tony nominee Marin Mazzie will take on the role of Aunt Louise.

Graciela Daniele is directing the reading with a cast that also includes Stephen Bogardus, David Garrison, Emily Skinner, and Chip Zien.

The late Pulitzer Prize winner Wasserstein adapted her book for the stage with Tony-winning composer Cy Coleman and Tony-winning lyricist David Zippel; some years after she died, Tony-winning playwright Christopher Durang came onboard to work on the script.

Durang and Zippel are working with Two River, which is committed to further developing the piece with an eye toward a full production in an upcoming season. A sold-out concert version of Pamela's First Musical was presented at Manhattan's Town Hall in May 2008.
