The premiere of Caryl Churchill's A Number at the Royal Court this autumn would have been a major event in any case. The fact that it is to be directed by Stephen Daldry gave it an even grater kudos, but the Royal Court have now announced (after the news was leaked this morning), that A Number is to star Sir Michael Gambon.
Due to his other commitments, the start of the play has been altered. A Number will now preview Sept. 23, open on Sept. 26, and run until Nov. 16.
Sir Michael starred in the film "Gosford Park" earlier this year, and was the lead in Cressida, the stage play about boy actors in the 1630's, written by Nicholas Wright, whose latest play, Vincent in Brixton, has just opened to rave reviews at Wyndham's.
