After earning critical praise for its New York bow in the 1980's, Garden will return to the Minetta Lane for a 12-week engagement, which officially opens Oct. 21 and continues through Jan. 4, 2009.
The cast features Kurt Froman (Movin' Out), General McArthur Hambrick (Cats), Marjorie Folkman, Jennifer Nugent, Jenny Sandler, Isadora Wolfe, Benjamin G. Bowman, Sophie Bortolusi, Gabrielle Malone, Whitney V. Hunter and Matt Rivera (Movin’ Out).
The 70-minute production — featuring movement, music and aerial effects — brings to life Hieronymus Bosch's densely populated triptych, depicting "the progression of sin from creation to hell, as well as a journey from innocence to chaos."
"Its visceral theatricality presents an astonishing spectrum of human experience and emotion. Garden of Earthly Delights, with its eroticism and apocalyptic vision, is certainly as meaningful today as when Bosch created it," Clarke said in a statement.
Featuring a Drama Desk Award-winning score by Richard Peaslee, Garden has scenic and lighting design by Tony Award winner Christopher Akerlind, costume design by Tony nominee Jane Greenwood and aerial design provided by Flying By Foy. Garden of Earthly Delights currently plays New Jersey's Two River Theatre Company through Sept. 14 prior to its Off-Broadway return.
