News Garrett Long to Play Dorothea Lange in NYMF Musical Things as They Are; Complete Cast Announced Drama Desk Award nominee Garrett Long will play the celebrated photojournalist Dorothea Lange in the new musical Things As They Are, by Jonathan Comisar and John Dietrich, which will have its world premiere Sept. 27-Oct. 6 as part of the 2010 New York Musical Theatre Festival.

The musical will be performed at the Theater at St. Clement's. Donna Drake will direct Long (The Spitfire Grill, South Pacific) and a cast including David Andrew Anderson, Sarah Dacey Charles, Michael Deleget, Will Erat, Kerry Flanagan, Bob Knapp, Zach Landes, Kelvin Moon Loh, Adam MacDonald, Jennifer McCabe, Sam Smithyman, Matthew Charles Thompson, David Toombs, Laura Ware and Sandy York. According to press notes, "Best known as the photographer behind the iconic Depression-era image 'Migrant Mother,' Dorothea fights for the lives of the people she photographs, while constantly torn between the demanding roles of wife, mother, and artist. A woman ahead of her time, living during a tumultuous period in American history, will her relentless devotion to her subjects undermine all hope of keeping her world in balance?"

The performance dates for Things as They Are follows: Sept. 27 at 8 PM, Sept. 28, at 9 PM, Oct. 1 at 1 PM, Oct. 2nd at 5 PM and 9 PM, and Oct. 6th at 9 PM.
