Bed, Boys and Beyond, a new gay-themed musical revue expanding on a 1999 New York International Fringe Festival show called All Male Lives of Y2-Gay, plays the Duplex Cabaret Theatre March 1-April 1, in Greenwich Village.
Portions of the show, by lyricist-librettist Jeff Dobbins and composer Alfredo Alvarez, were seen in the summer 1999 Y2-Gay hit. The show explores the lives of five gay men searching for love, understanding and community in the post-closet era. Songs includes "Searchin' For a Euphemism," "Here in Chelsea," "Family Values," "The Seven-Week Itch," "May I Take Your Hand?" and more. The "ex-gay" movement is also addressed, and a satirical look at the Boy Scouts is offered.
Jeff Kalpak directs and Brett Kristofferson musical-directs a cast that includes Don Brewer, Chad Miller, Ryan Perry, Tom Stuart and James Wesley.
Performances in March are 9 PM Wednesdays and 8 PM Saturdays and 10 PM April 1.
Tickets are $15 (with a two-drink minimum). The Duplex is at 61 Christopher Street in Manhattan. For information, call (212) 255-5438. -- By Kenneth Jones
