News Geffen Announces Anthology Evening About Motherhood and Extraordinary Chambers Premiere Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles announced two more productions for its current season in the intimate Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater: In Mother Words, a collection of stories on the universal subject of motherhood by award-winning contemporary playwrights, and David Wiener's Extraordinary Chambers, a world premiere about the consequences of a couple's trip to Cambodia.

Geffen producing director Gil Cates said in a statement, "Three years ago, the Audrey was created with artists' idiosyncrasies in mind. In the most literal sense, we created a completely flexible design space, but more figuratively, this space has given us flexibility with the work that has gone in it. It's been home to Neil LaBute's Wrecks, the musical Louis and Keely and everything in between. With the announcement of these two new shows, we've completed a wonderfully diverse season full of new works in the Audrey — a tradition we will continue for years to come."

Here are the productions at a glance:

In Mother Words
Conceived by Susan Rose & Joan Stein
Written by Leslie Ayvazian, David Cale, Jessica Goldberg, Beth Henley, Lameece Issaq, Lisa Loomer, Michele Lowe, Marco Pennette, Lisa Ramirez, Theresa Rebeck, Luanne Rice, Annie Weisman & Cheryl L. West
Directed by Lisa Peterson
Feb. 15–May 1, 2011

"When some of contemporary theatre's most talented voices — including Pulitzer Prize winner Beth Henley, Peabody Award winner Theresa Rebeck and two-time Steinberg/ATCA New Play award finalist Michele Lowe — tackle the subject of motherhood, the result is an eye-opening, hilarious and irresistible night of theatre. More than a dozen of today's best playwrights come together to share their personal stories on one of the most universal themes. Share in the joy, absurdities and unflinching honesty about mothers as these stories give voice to moms and children of all ages, races and even sexes. Whether you are a parent, have a parent or ever want to become a parent, this play will elate and terrify equally — much like motherhood itself."

Extraordinary Chambers
Written by David Wiener
Directed by Pamela McKinnon
May 24–July 3, 2011

"As the Khmer Rouge once again attract international attention, this world premiere play gets to the heart of the headlines. When Carter, an American telecom executive, brings his wife Mara on a business trip to Cambodia, he never imagines that the ghosts of this beautiful country will find a way to haunt their lives. As business deals unravel and personal negotiations brim with political consequences, Carter and Mara must decide if the salvation of one life is worth sacrificing the justice of many."

Cast and creative teams will be announced. In the meantime, following the previously announced Dick Van Dyke – Step in Time! – A Musical Memoir begins previews Dec. 8 and opens on Dec. 16 in the Audrey Skirball Kenis. For more information, call (310) 208-5454 or visit geffenplayhouse.com.
