George Salazar, Lauren Harkins, and Kathryn Gallagher will star in the New York City premiere of the musical KareHouse, being presented in concert form at Joe’s Pub in New York City for two performances September 25 and 26.

The show has music and lyrics by Libby Winters (who appeared in the ensemble of American Idiot on Broadway), and a book by Michael Kimmel (Songbird, The Last Goodbye). The show is described not just as a musical, but as “a new way of living built upon community, shared goals and a fundamental belief that we are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with. KareHouse challenges ‘living’ norms through physical spaces that foster meaningful relationships.”

Winters’ score mixes “distorted rock guitars with melodic vocals to create a distinctly ‘pretty-grunge’ sound for the show.”

Salazar (The Lightning Thief, tick, tick… BOOM!, Godspell) and Harkins join Gallagher (Spring Awakening), Ronald Alexander Peet (The Lion In Winter), Theo Stockman (American Idiot), Alyse Alan Louis (Disaster!), and Renée Albulario (Wild Party, Here Lies Love) in the cast.

KareHouse will be directed by Jenny Koons (Burn All Night), and produced by John Gallagher Jr., Allison Bressi, and Lianne Kennedy. Music direction is by Emma Weiss and Jeremy Robin Lyons.

Karehouse will be performed at Joe’s Pub (part of the Public Theatre complex at 425 Lafayette Street, New York City) for two performances 7 PM September 25 and 9:30 PM September 26. Tickets cost $15, and can be ordered at Joespub.publictheater.org.
