The project — a German-language musical about the relationship between European theatrical producers Emanuel Schikaneder, a composer, librettist and singer, and his wife and business partner Eleonore — will have a libretto by Christian Struppeck, the general artistic director of the Raimund and Ronacher Theaters in Vienna.

According to Viennese daily newspaper the Kurier, the work will premiere at the Raimund or the Ronacher during the 2015-16 season.

Emanuel Schikaneder was the librettist of Mozart's 1791 opera The Magic Flute and sang Papageno in the original production. Schwartz told the Kurier that audiences do not need to be familiar with The Magic Flute to enjoy the piece.

As previously reported, Schwartz's next Broadway-aimed project will be Houdini, which is slated to star Tony winner Hugh Jackman.

Schwartz was Tony-nominated for his scores of Pippin, Godspell, Working, Rags and Wicked. He also composed the 2011 opera Séance on a Wet Afternoon.
