The Disney musical The Lion King, officially opened in Hamburg, Germany on Dec. 2. The Hamburg mounting is the first production of the Tony Award winning Lion King in Europe. A British mounting in London has been running for some time.
Stage Holdings, an international entertainment group owned by Joop van den Ende, produced the show in association with Disney Theatrical Productions. The company renovated a recently-purchased theatre in the Hamburg harbor to house the Elton John-Tim Rice-Julie Taymor musical. Seating capacity for the new Hafen Theatre is 1,800.
