As enticing as a deal with the King of the Underworld might be, it's not necessary to get an advanced listen of his seductive (if intimidating) bass. Ahead of Hadestown's second release of tracks from its upcoming Original Broadway Cast Recording, Playbill has a first listen to two numbers: "Hey Little Songbird" and "When the Chips Are Down."
As previously announced, the musical will roll out the 40 tracks comprising the album over a series of drops. These two songs are included on the second (available June 7); three subsequent releases (June 28, July 12, and July 26) will correspond with pairs or groups of characters in Anaïs Mitchell's mythological musical.
The album (later to be released as a physical double album) hails from David Lai and Todd Sicakfoose, who previously produced the 2017 live recording from the show’s premiere at New York Theatre Workshop.

Hadestown is currently up for 14 Tony Awards—the most of any nominated show this season—including Best Musical and nods for Mitchell, director Rachel Chavkin, and stars Eva Noblezada, Patrick Page, André De Shields, and Amber Gray.
In "Hey Little Songbird," Hades (Page) offers Eurydice (Noblezada) an ominous sense of safety via his domain below. Immediately after, three Fates (Jewelle Blackman, Yvette Gonzales-Naces, and Kay Trinidad), in tight harmony, coax Eurydice to ponder the proposition.
