The musical heads to the Kennedy Center February 14–18.

Chess returns to the stage in a new production at the Kennedy Center starring an array of Broadway favorites. Check out these clips from a recent press preview, featuring Raúl Esparza, Ramin Karimloo, and Tony Award winners Karen Olivo and Ruthie Ann Miles.

In the video above, the four sing Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, and Tim Rice’s “Endgame” alongside Bryce Pinkham, Bradley Dean, and Sean Allan Krill. See below for a taste of “Commie Newspapers” and “The Deal.”

The new staging will run February 14–18 at the Washington, D.C., theatre. Esparza and Karimloo will play American chess champion Freddie Trumper and Russian chess star Anatoly Sergievsky, respectively, with Olivo as Florence Vassey, Miles as Svetlana Sergievsky, Pinkham as the Arbiter, Dean as Ivan Molokov, and Krill as Walter Anderson.

The Michael Mayer-helmed production—the inaugural presentation in the Kennedy Center's Broadway Center Stage series—will also feature a new book adapted by Danny Strong.

Chess began as a concept album in 1984 before premiering in the West End in 1986. The musical follows an international chess championship and its political implications against the backdrop of the Cold War.
