Girl Be Heard Will Address Refugee Crisis in Displaced

News   Girl Be Heard Will Address Refugee Crisis in Displaced

Displaced, a new play about the refugee crisis, will be presented in New York Jan. 22-25.

Directed by Ashley Marinaccio, founder and artistic director of Girl Be Heard, Displaced will play the Nuyroican Poets Café.

The play was written by Girl Be Heard Company members in collaboration with multi-national asylum seekers from the Sandholm Refugee Camp in Denmark.

Here's how the production is billed: "Through personal stories and those shared with Girl Be Heard company members from girls living in refugee camps abroad, the cast explores the injustices that make home such a fleeting dream for many. Displaced comes at a critical time for both US and communities abroad, as homelessness and displacement are the highest they've been in decades."

Displaced is produced by Jessica Greer Morris, executive director and co-founder of Girl Be Heard.

A non-profit theatre company, Girl Be Heard brings global issues affecting girls center stage by empowering young women to tell their stories. Nuyroican Poets Café is located at 236 East 3rd Street. Visit girlbeheard.org for more information.
