What would Broadway musicals be without a little camp? With help from The King And I, the Girl Scouts will be getting a lot of Camp -- Camp Broadway that is.

Camp Broadway offers kids 10-17 theatre training and exposes them to professional theatre productions. In a special summer promotion, Camp Broadway is working with the Girl Scouts so that tri-state area Junior Girl Scouts can earn a "Theatre Badge," while Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts can partake in "The Play's The Thing" Interest Project.

To kick off the project, former Girl Scout Faith Prince renewed her pledge prior to the June 11 matinee of The King And I. She was joined by the young actresses playing the Royal Princesses in the Broadway revival of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic.

In addition to its August 11-16 theatre summer camp program, Camp Broadway sponsors theatre related activities and arts education programs.

For additional information on Camp Broadway and a schedule of activities, call Camp Headquarters at (212) 388-7331 or e-mail [email protected]. To check out Camp photos, articles and contests from 1996, log on to the Camp Broadway area on Playbill On-Line. --By David Lefkowitz
