Series creator, writer and director Ryan Murphy conceived "Glee" Live! In Concert!, which will highlight musical numbers from the show including "Don’t Stop Believin," "Somebody To Love," "Jump," "Don't Rain on My Parade" and "Sweet Caroline."
"The response of the fans to our little show has been so immediate and so gratifying, we wanted to get out and thank them live and in person," Murphy said in a statement. "And what show lends itself more to a concert than 'Glee?' We can’t wait to take this show on the road and the actors couldn’t be more excited to perform live for audiences in these four cities."
"This has been such an extraordinary year for 'Glee' and I can’t think of a better way to finish up the first season than performing live on stage with the cast," added Broadway's Lea Michele (Spring Awakening) in a statement. Her co-star Corey Monteith also commented, "This show has changed my life in so many ways. If you had told me a year ago that I’d be performing classic rock songs in concert theaters around the country, I would never have believed you. We are psyched!" Tickets ($39.50-$89.50) will begin pre-sale to American Express cardholders March 5. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 12 for Phoenix shows and March 13 for the New York, Los Angeles and Chicago dates. Visit Ticketmaster.com.
"Glee" will resume with all-new episodes April 13 at 9 PM ET on Fox. The series has also been picked up for a second season. The popular franchise has spawned CDs, series DVDs, sheet music and choral arrangements of the songs featured on the show.
According to FOX, "'Glee' is an uplifting series with biting humor that features a soundtrack of hit music from past to present. The show follows an optimistic high school teacher, Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), as he tries to refuel his own passion while reinventing the high school's glee club and challenging a group of outcasts to realize their star potential. It's not an easy task when the pitch-imperfect club includes Mercedes (Amber Riley), a forceful diva-in-training; Arty (Kevin McHale), a geeky guitarist; Kurt (Chris Colfer), a dramatic soprano; Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz), a punk rocker; and self-proclaimed 'star' Rachel (Lea Michele), a perfectionist firecracker.
"McKinley's cruel high school caste system prevents the glee club from flourishing, so Will recruits Finn (Cory Monteith), the quarterback with movie star looks, to join the group even though he wants to protect his reputation with his holier-than-thou girlfriend, Quinn (Dianna Agron), and his arrogant teammate, Puck (Mark Salling). With harsh criticism from everyone, including Will's tough-as-nails wife Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig) and McKinley's egotistical cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), he is determined to prove them all wrong and lead the glee club to the greatest competition of them all: Nationals."
