NYC's Propeller Theatre will present a solo performance based on a radio documentary by the late pianist virtuoso Glenn Gould, called The Idea of North, starring Michael John Carley and directed by downtown favorite Steven Rattazzi. North will play at the HERE Performance Art Cafe, Sept. 9 - 26.

Commissioned by the Canadian Broadcast Corporation in the mid-1960s, The Idea of North is the first installment of three radio documentaries entitled, "The Solitude Trilogy." North comprises a series of interviews, arranged in a verbal fugue by Gould with people who have lived in the freezing frontier of Canada's high north.

Carley is a playwright, director and performer. He was playwright-in- residence for Arden Party for two years, with plays including Boris Simonov and the Last Frontier, Piotr's Magic Radio, In a Name, The Dungeon Opera, Snow Angels, Bo Culcullen Discovers the New World, and Mstislav Dies in the Snow.
