Opening Night Photos Go Inside Opening Night of Hadestown on Broadway Anaïs Mitchell’s folk opera, based on the legend of Orpheus, opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre April 17.

The Broadway premiere of Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell’s folk opera, officially opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre April 17 after beginning preview performances March 22. The show, directed by Rachel Chavkin, returns to New York following an acclaimed run at London’s National Theatre and earlier Off-Broadway production at NYTW.

Hadestown offers a new, musical interpretation of Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain his true love, Eurydice.

Reeve Carney (Orpheus), André De Shields (Hermes), Amber Gray (Persephone), Eva Noblezada (Eurydice), and Patrick Page (Hades) lead the company of Hadestown, reprising their performances from the recent National Theatre bow.

Rounding out the cast are Jewelle Blackman, Yvette Gonzalez-Nacer, and Kay Trinidad as the Fates, with Afra Hines, Timothy Hughes, John Krause, Kimberly Marable, and Ahmad Simmons in the chorus of Workers. Malcolm Armwood, T. Oliver Reid, Jessie Shelton, and Khalia Wilcoxon serve as swings.

The production features choreography by David Neumann, musical direction by Liam Robinson, orchestrations by Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, sets by Rachel Hauck, costumes by Michael Krass, lighting design by Bradley King, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz. Casting is by Stewart/Whitley.
