News Golden Globe Winners Will Be Announced at Press Conference; Ceremony Canceled Because of the ongoing strike by the Writers Guild of America, the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards NBC telecast and champagne dinner have been canceled.

Once members of the Writers Guild announced they would picket the annual awards ceremony, scheduled for Jan. 13, it was doubtful talent would have attended. Instead of the glitzy awards, the winners' names will simply be announced at an hour-long press conference at The Beverly Hilton. NBC News will cover the reading of the names, which is scheduled to begin at 6 PM PST.

In a statement, Jorge Camara, President of The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, said, "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television. We take some comfort, however, in knowing that this year's Golden Globe Award recipients will be announced on the date originally scheduled."

Nominations in 25 Golden Globe categories were announced Dec. 13. Two film versions of Broadway musicals were nominated in the category of Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy: "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" (snagging four noms) and "Hairspray" (taking three).

For their work on "Sweeney," director Tim Burton, actor Johnny Depp and actress Helena Bonham Carter were also nominated.

Newcomer Nikki Blonsky, who plays portly Tracy Turnblad in "Hairspray," was nominated in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. She'll compete with Helena Bonham Carter, "La Vie En Rose" star Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page of "Juno" and Amy Adams of the Disney film "Enchanted." John Travolta, who donned wig and housecoat to play a Baltimore frump in "Hairspray," was also nominated for his work, as a supporting actor.

Broadway and film composer Alan Menken and Broadway and film lyricist Stephen Schwartz were nominated in the category of Best Original Song for "That's How You Know," from "Enchanted," a live action/animation mix that spoofs Disney princess films.

Aaron Sorkin, the playwright of Broadway's The Farnsworth Invention and A Few Good Men, earned a Golden Globe nomination for his screenplay of "Charlie Wilson's War."

Julie Taymor's visually stunning "Across the Universe" and Steven Spielberg's "Charlie Wilson's War" were both nominated in the category of Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
