News   "Good Morning America" to Celebrate Lion King Milestone Nov. 12
To help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Tony-winning musical The Lion King, "Good Morning America" will feature a segment devoted to the long-running Disney musical.

On Nov. 12 Disney producer Thomas Schumacher and Lion King's Tony-winning director and designer, Julie Taymor, will be featured on the morning chat show. The Schumacher-Taymor interview is scheduled to air during the 8 AM hour of the program, which is broadcast in the metropolitan area on WABC-TV, Channel 7. The Lion King, as previously announced, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a gala performance Sunday, Nov. 11 at the Minskoff Theatre.

The Lion King originally opened at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre Nov. 13, 1997. Directed by Julie Taymor — who became the first woman to ever receive a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical — The Lion King has become an international hit with productions playing all around the globe. In fact, the Elton John-Tim Rice musical has won over 30 major awards. Those include six Tony Awards, including one for Best Musical; eight Drama Desk Awards; six Outer Critics Circle Awards; two Sir Laurence Oliviers; the Evening Standard Award for Best Theatrical Event; and three Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards.
