"Good Morning America" Will Welcome Sunday's Sondheim, Lapine, Evans and Russell

News   "Good Morning America" Will Welcome Sunday's Sondheim, Lapine, Evans and Russell
The March 17 broadcast of ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" will feature a segment devoted to the Broadway revival of Sunday in the Park with George, which recently opened at Studio 54.

Diane Sawyer will chat with both the creators of Sunday — composer Stephen Sondheim and librettist James Lapine — as well as the revival's co-stars, Daniel Evans and Jenna Russell.

"Good Morning America" airs in the metropolitan area on WABC-TV, Channel 7, from 7-9 AM ET; check local listings.

Sam Buntrock directs the new production of Sunday in the Park, which features musical staging by Christopher Gattelli. The limited engagement is scheduled to run through June 15.

The Georges Seurat painting, "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte," is the inspiration for the musical fantasy, which, according to press notes, "celebrates the art of creation and the creation of art. The first half of Sunday in the Park with George, set in 1884, sees the painting and its rich comic tapestry come to life in a world where, for Georges, art comes before love, before everything. In the second half, set in 1980s New York, we see the great grandson of Georges and his search for inspiration amongst the unfolding world of contemporary art."
