News Good Vibrations to Begin Broadway Previews Dec. 4 Good Vibrations, the new musical that uses songs from The Beach Boys canon, will begin performances at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre Dec. 4.

The O'Neill Theatre currently houses the Tony-nominated musical Caroline, or Change, which will end its run Aug. 29. John Carrafa — of Urinetown fame — will direct and choreograph Good Vibrations, which officially opens Jan. 13, 2005. Good Vibrations has an original book by Richard Dresser (Rounding Third, Below the Belt) and uses more than 30 songs written by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys. The plot, however, is not a biographical tale of the blond-mopped California band that celebrated cars, girls and surfing in the 1960s.

A recent production of the musical was presented at the New York Stage & Film on the campus of Vassar College. That staging featured David Larsen and Justin Guarini, runner-up in the first "American Idol" TV competition. No casting has been announced for the Broadway run.

Producers for the Broadway production include NCJ Productions (Nina Keneally, Cathleen Murphy, Jamie Lightstone) with Michael Watt and Dodger Stage Holding.
