News Goodwin Goes from Nine to Chicago June 24 Deidre Goodwin will segue from one hit musical revival to another when she joins the Broadway company of Chicago at the end of June.

Goodwin, who is currently playing Our Lady of the Spa in the Tony-nominated revival of Nine at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, will begin playing Velma Kelly in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre June 24. A Chicago spokesperson confirmed the news.

Goodwin has previously played the role of merry murderess Kelly on Broadway, and she also has the distinction of playing June in the Academy Award-winning “Chicago” film. Goodwin’s other Broadway credits include The Rocky Horror Show and Jesus Christ Superstar as well as the City Center Encores! production of The Pajama Game.

The Broadway cast of Chicago currently stars Roxane Carrasco as Velma Kelly, Tracy Shayne as Roxie Hart, Brent Barrett as Billy Flynn, Angie Stone as Matron “Mama” Morton, D. Sabella as Mary Sunshine and P. J. Benjamin as Amos Hart. Screen actress Melanie Griffith joins the company as Roxie July 11-Sept. 28. This will mark Griffith's Broadway bow.

Chicago won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors Bebe Neuwirth and James Naughton, director Walter Bobbie, lighting designer Ken Billington and choreographer Ann Reinking. The original production was directed and choreographed by the late Bob Fosse.
