News Gotham Gets Early Screening of Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd" Dec. 20 Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd" will be unleashed Dec. 20 at a special screening for the New York City Goth community prior to the film's Dec. 21 release.

Paramount will host the event which pairs the film's Fleet Street denizen with modern-day macabre mavens at a Manhattan theatre. Expected guests include Dave Gahan (of the group Depeche Mode); Nick Ghanbarian and Chris Guglielmo (Bayside); Josie DiCarlo, Mike Ski (The A.K.A.s) and Carin Laufenberg; Tim and Kris Heireth (Brand New Idol); as well as the bands Ours and A Hero From A Thousand Paces.

Even before the official release, the film has been garnering acclaim. It was among the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures' Top Ten Films, Time's Top 10 Movies of 2007 and was nominated for Critics' Choice Awards (Best Picture, Acting Ensemble, Actor - Johnny Depp, Director and Young Actor - Edward Sanders) and Golden Globes (Picture, Director, Actor - Depp, Actress - Helena Bonham Carter).

Burton's take "Sweeney Todd" will hit movie theatres nationwide Dec. 21. John Logan ("The Aviator," "Gladiator," Never the Sinner) penned the DreamWorks/Warner Bros. film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical.

The film stars Depp as the title barber, Bonham Carter as piemaker Mrs. Lovett as well as Alan Rickman and Sacha Baron Cohen.
