The choice of the site for a new cultural center, featuring music halls, museums, and an open-air theater, was revealed by the paper's sources after a meeting between Giorgos Alogoskoufis, Greece's economy and finance minister, and Petros Tatoulis, deputy culture minister.

The two other sites were being considered were in the section of Athens called Kerameikos and in an old army radio and television headquarters in central Athens. Faliron currently houses the Olympic tae kwon do venue.
