News Gretchen Egolf Will Star as Candida at the Pittsburgh Public; Ted Pappas to Direct Pittsburgh Public Theater's "Masterpiece" season will continue with George Bernard Shaw's Candida, directed by Ted Pappas, beginning April 17, prior to an official opening April 25.

Starring Gretchen Egolf in the title role, performances will continue through May 18 at the O'Reilly Theater, PPT's home in the heart of Downtown's Cultural District.

The cast also includes Jared McGuire as Eugene Marchbanks, David Whalen as Reverend James Morell, John O'Creagh as Mr. Burgess, Matthew Minor as Reverend Alexander Mill and Meghan Mae O'Neill as Proserpine Garnett.

In Candida, according to PPT, "Reverend Morell is a socialist reformer and his intelligent wife Candida, sometimes called Candy, manages their London vicarage. When idealistic young Marchbanks comes to visit, he is infatuated with the beautiful Candida and hopes to disrupt the couple's domestic order. In this romantic tug of war, she must decide what love really means. Also present in the household are Candida’s jocular father, Mr. Burgess, Morell's curate, Reverend Alexander Mill, and secretary Proserpine Garnett. Shaw's play made its American premiere in 1903 and is still a triumph of sophisticated wit."

The creative team for Candida includes James Noone (scenic), Andrew B. Marlay (costumes), Kirk Bookman (lighting), Zach Moore (sound), Don Wadsworth (dialect coach), Fredric H. Orner (production stage manager) and Alicia DiGiorgi (assistant stage manager).
