News "Grey's Anatomy" Will Air Musical Episode Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez and fellow Broadway veteran Chandra Wilson will likely get the chance to show off their vocal skills on "Grey's Anatomy" this season.

Series creator Shonda Rimes told TVguide.com that a musical episode of the ABC medical drama is planned for this season.

Rimes said the story would focus heavily on Callie, the surgeon played by Ramirez (Spamalot, A Class Act, The Capeman). Wilson (Caroline, or Change; Avenue Q), who plays Dr. Miranda Bailey on the show, may also get a chance to flex her vocal chords, as might other cast members not known for their singing.

Rimes told TV Guide, "You will be very surprised to discover that some people sing quite well. That's sort of a little gift to the fans, to discover that people who are not necessarily known for singing have pretty great voices. Also, some people won't be singing because it doesn't go with the story."

Rimes, who mentioned musical episodes of other drama-heavy shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," also said, "We're not doing what anybody would call a typical musical episode. … Nobody is going to be dancing and singing down the halls; that's not our show. Our show is known for its music. I very much wanted to do something that was musical without being a musical."

"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays at 9 PM ET on ABC.
