This is the inaugural project in Dramaworks' new initiative for plays in development. The play has been seen in developmental stages in New York, Los Angeles and Houston.

Dorothy is written and performed by Ginna Carter at Dramworks' intimate downtown West Palm Beach theatre at 322 Banyan Boulevard.

According to the company, "Dorothy re-imagines the well-known character from Kansas in the present day and looks at life for this now grown woman. In Dorothy, Ginna Carter constructs her own idea of what the young heroine went through after her incredible journey and magical trip to Oz."

Published in 1900, the original L. Frank Baum book, "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," would spawn a Baum-written series, and inspire films, plays and musicals over the next 100 years (including Was, The Wiz and Wicked).

Ginna Carter is an actress and a playwright. A graduate of Harvard/Radcliffe College, Carter went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before moving to Los Angeles where she pursued an acting career. Carter has performed at The Shakespeare Theatre in Washington D.C, the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA and was nominated for the Los Angeles Critics' Award in 2001 for her performance in Everyday Life. As a playwright, her first play, A Girl Thing, was a winner in The Orange County Playwrights' Alliance 2000 Page to Stage Competition; her second play, Traffic School, was a finalist at the 2002 Washington D.C. Theatre Festival and won Best Production at The Source Theatre National Playwriting Competition. Currently, Carter is a Masters candidate in the Professional Writing program at USC.
