Kim Zimmer, the star of TV's "Guiding Light," will appear in the musical High Spirits at TheatreFest in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. The show runs from July 20-Aug. 6. It is based on the 1941 play Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward. The musical High Spirits was written by Hugh Martin and Timothy Gray.
Zimmer has won acclaim for her role in Guiding Light. She has been nominated for six Daytime Emmy Awards, and has won thrice. This year, she was voted Outstanding Lead Actress by Soap Opera Digest magazine.
She will portray Elvira, the pesky spirit from the great beyond. When her husband, Charles, tries to conduct a seance to refresh his memory, he actually contacts his first wife. This makes his second wife, Ruth, rather uncomfortable. The show also stars Reva Shayne.
The play first opened on Broadway in 1964, and played for almost a year with Beatrice Lilly and Tammy Grimes. Its songs include "Something is Coming to Tea," "Forever and a Day," "I Know Your Heart," and "Home Sweet Heaven." It follows the same plot as the original Noel Coward play Blithe Spirit.
