The world premiere of Arthur Miller's Resurrection Blues, currently in previews at the Guthrie Theater, officially opens Aug. 9.

Directed by David Esbjornson, who helmed this season's Tony Award-winning production of Edward Albee's The Goat, Blues will play the Guthrie through Sept. 8. Starring John Bedford Lloyd, Jeff Weiss and Laila Robins, Miller's self-described "satire" concerns the fictitious General Felix Barreaux (John Bedford Lloyd), a political leader of an unnamed country, who promotes a televised crucifixion and invites an American advertising firm to document the execution. The play is, ultimately, a complex examination of social responsibility that explores political violence, economic devastation and corruption in the media.

John Bedford Lloyd has appeared on Broadway in The Rainmaker and Some Americans Abroad, and his extensive film credits include "Riding in Cars with Boys," "Nixon" and "Philadelphia." Jeff Weiss' Broadway work includes roles in The Iceman Cometh, Ivanov, Present Laughter, The Play's the Thing and Carousel. A Guthrie regular, Laila Robins has appeared on Broadway in The Herbal Bed and The Real Thing, and she received critical acclaim for her work Off-Broadway in Tiny Alice. Others in the Guthrie cast include Emil Herrera, David Chandler, Peter Thoemke, Laura Esping, Wendy Vanden Havel and Bruce Bohne.

World-renowned playwright Arthur Miller won Tonys for the original productions of All My Sons, Death of a Salesman and The Crucible. His other works include A View From the Bridge, A Memory of Mondays, After the Fall, The Price, The Creation of the World and Other Business, The American Clock, The Ride Down Mt. Morgan, The Last Yankee and Broken Glass. Miller was represented on Broadway this season with revivals of The Man Who Had All the Luck and The Crucible.
