News Guthrie's Opening Celebration to Feature Caldwell, McDonald, Bassett, Cariou and More To celebrate its new three-theatre home on the banks of the Mississippi River, the Guthrie Theater has planned a series of opening events, including a black-tie gala fundraiser on June 24.

Guthrie Opening Night: A Midsummer's Celebration will be hosted by the theatre's artistic director, Joe Dowling. Osmo Vänskä will conduct the Minnesota Orchestra, and the star-studded cast will boast founding Guthrie members Zoe Caldwell and George Grizzard.

The performance, directed by Gary Gisselman, will also feature Lauren Asheim, Christina Baldwin, Angela Bassett, Barbara Bryne, Helen Carey, Len Cariou, Patricia Conolly, Amanda Detmer, Santino Fontana, Peter Michael Goetz, Richard Iglewski, T. R. Knight, Audra McDonald, Ann Michels, Tinia Moulder, Lee Mark Nelson, Isabell Monk O’Connor, Jennifer Baldwin Peden, Randy Reyes, Kersten Rodau, Jeveeta Steele and the Twin Cities Community Gospel Choir, Courtney B. Vance, Suzanne Warmanen, Sally Wingert and Stephen Yoakam.

A late-night dance party in Dowling Studio will follow the performance.

Tickets, priced $400-$1,500, are by invitation only. Proceeds will benefit the theatre's 2006-2007 inaugural season. For more information visit www.guthrietheater.org.

* Opening events will also include the North American premiere of DruidSynge (June 27-July 1) and a free Community Celebration (June 25). The latter will feature family activities, inaugural performances, live music and a fireworks display.
